What If?

on September 7, 2012

In the movie Letters to Juliet, Amanda Seyfried’s character writes a letter to a woman after finding her letter that she wrote to Juliet 50 years before. In the letter, the woman asks for Juliet’s advice after she left the man she loved in Italy to come back to the states. In her repy, Amanda Seyfried says something along the lines of “What and if are two of the most unassuming words, but when put together what if can be the scariest phrase”.

That is very true. People are constantly saying “what if…”. They are constantly second guessing themselves and their decisions. That is never a good way to live.

Some examples of minor what ifs:

What if I have a salad instead of a hamburger?

What if I get a dog instead of a cat?

Some more important what ifs:

What if I quit my job and apply somewhere else?

What if I break up with my boyfriend for someone else?

I always try to avoid what ifs as nothing ever turns out right when one thinks that. Some people think that living with the constant question makes life interesting. I believe that it just makes you regret the decisions you made that got you where you are today.  Some of those decisions may not be the best in the world, but everything happens for a reason. There is no reason to second guess Fate or God. Everything will work out for the best one way or another.

My challenge to you: Live life with NO regrets, NO what ifs, NO looking back in to the past, and live every day as if it were your last. (: Always be positive and something good will happen, even out of the worst situations.

What if you lived life by the challenge I just gave you?
